Workplace Access & Safety

    Client Goal

Workplace Access & Safety were looking to adopt digital inspection technology to help streamline end-client reporting and allow high-quality data collection to provide actionable insights.

    Problem

Inspecting at height using paper check sheets proved highly inconvenient. Inspectors faced challenges climbing ladders with tool bags and the necessary height safety forms.

With the implementation of Inspectivity, we have decreased time onsite and reporting for re-inspections by 30%.

    Challenge

Fall injuries are among the leading causes of workplace fatalities. Established in 1997, Workplace Access & Safety (WAS) helps workplaces meet their obligations under the Working at Heights legislation to prevent such tragedies. Today, as a specialist in Australian height safety services, WAS is a market leader, providing high-quality, cost-effective inspection, design, and advisory services to both industry and government.

They provide inspection and certification of height safety systems, ensuring clients and their contractors can safely access roofs for routine maintenance. Additionally, they offer auditing and design consultation for Working at Heights systems.

The inspection service they provided faced several challenges:

    • Inconvenient and Unsafe Inspections: Inspectors had to climb ladders carrying both tool bags and paper check sheets, making the reporting process highly inconvenient and unsafe.
    • Delayed Reporting: Paper-based inspection forms resulted in non-real-time reporting, leading to delays in providing customers with critical safety information.
    • Low Data Quality: The manual process led to inconsistent and poor-quality data, hindering effective decision-making and trend analysis.

As a leading service provider in height safety, Workplace Access & Safety sought to adopt digital inspection technology to streamline client reporting and support the collection of high-quality sector-specific data. This data will reinforce their position as Australia’s foremost experts in the “height” domain.

Eliminating paper check sheets significantly reduced our office supplies costs. We enhanced the onsite efficiency and visibility of client assets by implementing QR tags. Moreover, we successfully applied the software to various needs beyond height safety, such as vehicle inspections, confined spaces, and office forms, among others. With the implementation of Inspectivity, we have decreased time onsite and reporting for re-inspections by 30%.

    Solution

WAS’s end clients require ongoing compliance year-round. To support this, they needed an effective technical approach for maintaining client asset registers and, crucially, an inspection history against this asset hierarchy. The selected technology needed to align with holistic asset management rather than just providing a digital form and an auto-generated PDF report.

The client selected the Inspectivity Platform, a digital inspection SaaS product, to create a paperless ecosystem. Inspectivity’s cloud inspection management software, integrated with a mobile app, features a robust asset-centric model that aligns perfectly with the client’s height safety inspection service, providing standardised inspection and issue management workflows.

With Inspectivity’s flexible configuration toolset, their in-house team began configuring digital inspection use cases using the Inspectivity Platform for various height safety applications. They started with compliance plate, anchor, and static line inspections and extended the application to ladder and stairway inspections, guardrails, and audits. In total, they have self-configured 37 different digital use cases.

    Results & Benefits

The client’s inspection team has fully embraced the digital platform, creating an asset-centric implementation that supports over 400 end-customer sites since its inception.

For Workplace Access & Safety, Inspectivity’s cloud service enables them to reduce the man-hours associated with the inspection activity lifecycle, from planning and fieldwork to automated client reporting.

There are many digital inspection solutions in the marketplace but a critical point of difference for Inspectivity Platform SaaS is the backbone of an asset hierarchy. This provides a more comprehensive asset management solution rather than simply a digital form and PDF report. How can you trend, predict and analyse without the baseline of an asset register?
